FAQ

When do new classes start and how soon should I apply?
We have an average of six cosmetology classes start each year. Our programs do fill up quickly, so please contact us today to make an appointment for an interview and tour of the school.

What should I know before the interview?
Every prospective student at Glen Dow Academy must set up an appointment for an interview and tour of the school. Students will meet with the Admissions Director by appointment only. She will give you a tour of the facility and then sit down with you to discuss your interest in the school and the enrollment process. Do not be late for your appointment! This is very much like a job interview, and can determine your admittance into the school.
Does your school offer Financial Aid?
The Glen Dow Academy is nationally accredited and Federally funded, using the FAFSA form to apply for financial aid to qualifying students. A copy of the previous year's taxes will be requested as proof of income from the student, and often times, from the parents as well. Students may apply online at www.fafsa.ed.gov. The school code is #009739, or forms are available here at the school.
What are the requirements to become enrolled in your school?
The minimum enrollment requirements are being of 17 years of age and completion of a high school diploma/GED. As a private school, we do have an application process that includes a school tour, interview, and entrance exam. Appointments can be made with Sara Meddock, Admissions Director at (509) 624-3244, x2. She will be your first contact at the school.
What schedules are offered for your courses and how long do they take to complete?
Our cosmetology program currently only offers a full-time schedule. It runs Tuesday through Saturday from 7:50am to 4:50pm and can be completed in as little as 11 ½ months. Manicuring classes take place Tuesday through Saturday from 9:00am to 4:00pm and take 5 ½ months to complete. We offer both a daytime and nighttime schedule for our esthetics course. The daytime course runs Tuesday through Saturday from 9:00am to 4:00pm and can be completed in 5 ½ months, whereas our evening course goes from Monday through Friday, 3:00pm to 8:30pm and takes about 6 ½ months to complete.
How will my day be structured? Will I work on real people?
The first eight weeks is the "boot camp" of your cosmetology training (three weeks for manicurists and estheticians). During this time, you will learn the basic fundamentals of the class. At the end of this phase you will pass a series of evaluations while getting orientated on the clinic floor, at which point you will become certified to work on actual clients in our school's salon. After "bootcamp", you will spend one hour in the classroom each day and the rest getting experience with clients.
How do you handle job placement for graduates?
While we cannot guarantee you a job after graduation, you will be introduced to many industry professionals through our guest speaker program and many special events. This has proven to be a successful system for our students to network with salon and spa owners, stylists, product line reps, medical skin care professionals and makeup artists. We will also take you through a series of career development classes including resume writing, interviewing skills, retail sales and business management.
Glen Dow Academy is proud of its 83% job placement rate for graduates!

When do I need to pay the $100 application fee?
